17.10.18. We visited the capital of the Dominican Republic. I want to say many thanks to our guide Irene. Although I read a lot about the country, she told us so many new interesting things and answered all our questions! She was always available to help during the entire excursion... more

When we came to the Dominican Republic and saw its white-sand beaches, we thought we would spend our entire vacation on the beach by the ocean! However, we decided to learn more about this paradise and visit the capital of the country. That was a right decision! Although we travel a lot and went around Europe, Santo Domingo left us so impressed! Every street of this city hides some story... more
The time of departure is stated in your ticket – it is the time of departure of the bus from the reception. You should come to the reception a bit earlier. If the tourists are coming late, the bus will be waiting for no more than 5 minutes after the time stated in the ticket.
A transfer from the touristic zone of Bavaro – Punta Cana to the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo, takes about 2.5 hours. On the way, our guide will tell you a very interesting story about the first voyages of Christopher Columbus and his discovery of America, so you won’t get bored!
For the excursion to Santo Domingo, we recommend putting on comfortable clothes and footwear without heels – you will go for a walk in the Colonial City. The excursion includes a visit to the First Cathedral in the Americas, which means that women will need some headwear. The elbows and the knees should also be covered. If you do not have such clothes, you can rent a large shawl near the Cathedral to cover your head and body.
Santo Doming is situated to the west of Punta Cana. The capital is usually drier than the eastern provinces. Thus, even if the morning is rainy in Bavaro, it is highly probable that there will be no rain during the excursion in Santo Domingo.
There are many gift-shops on the central square of Santo Domingo. Some of them offer prices a bit lower than in touristic zones, while others have the same prices as in Bavaro and Punta Cana. Anyway, we recommend that you take money for souvenirs and feel free to bargain in capital gift-shops!
The lunch in Santo Domingo features Dominican local dishes (rice, chicken, meat, vegetable salads) and soft drinks. You can buy alcoholic drinks for extra charge.
Although Santo Domingo is situated on the Caribbean Sea shore, the city does not have any beach! The locals go to swim away from the city. During the excursion, we won’t have any stops for swimming, so you won’t need swimwear.
If your child already goes to school, he or she will most probably find this excursion interesting! The guide will talk about the discovery of America, the Indians and Spanish conquistadors, Caribbean Sea pirates and many more topics usually covered during history lessons. Children under 6 will probably find the excursion tedious. Anyway, it is you who will take the decision, since you know better what will be interesting for your child.
