    1. COCO LOCO

    The most typical Dominican cocktails whose name is translated as “Crazy coconut” (from Spanish “coco” – coconut, “loco” – crazy). A classical recipe requires the use of a real coconut: cut the top of the coconut and add rum and fruit juice. Since the Dominican resorts gained popularity all over the world, this drink has also become famous. The recipe has also undergone changes, and now you may try different variants of Coco Loco, but many Dominicans still use the original recipe.

    INGREDIENTS:

    • 80 ml of coconut milk
    • 50 mil of pineapple juice
    • 30 ml of white rum
    • 30 ml of “Malibu” liquor
    • Ground cinnamon
    • Ice cubes

    PREPARATION:

    • Mix ice cubes with coconut milk and pineapple juice, add Malibu liquor and white rum
    • Shake it all very well in the shaker
    • Pour the mix into the glass, sprinkling ground cinnamon on top
    • Serve in a highball – a special tall glass for long drinks of an ideal cylindrical form.

    1. PIÑA COLADA

    This delicious Caribbean cocktail has already conquered the hearts of all people who have a sweet tooth and love exotic mixes all over the world. The Dominican Republic is not an exception: its residents are fond of sweets. The name of the cocktail is literally translated as “filtered pineapple”. And it is true that in Caribbean countries this drink is often served right in the pineapple!

    There are many variants of this cocktail. For example, it may be prepared without alcohol by excluding rum from the list of ingredients. You can also give it a Russian touch substituting rum with vodka (to get Piña Colada Chi Chi).

    PIÑA COLADA

    INGREDIENTS:

    • 30 ml of whiterum
    • 30 mlofcoconutmilk (itcanbesubstitutedwithcoconutliquor, forexampleMalibu)
    • 90 ml of pineapple juice
    • Crushed ice
    • A cherry and a piece of pineapple

    PREPARATION:

    • Mix ice, white rum, pineapple juice and coconut milk (liquor) in the blender
    • Blend at the maximum speed
    • Pour into a glass decorated with a piece of pineapple and a cherry

    1. CUBA LIBRE

    The name of this cocktail means “Free Cuba”. One of its advantages consists in easy preparation and simple ingredients always available and easy to find. It is also quite budget-friendly. By the way, the Dominicans created one of variants of this famous cocktail – “Santa Libre”, in which coke is substituted with Sprite. Try this version – it is so refreshing!

    INGREDIENTS:

    • 50 ml of white rum
    • 120 ml of coke
    • 10 ml of fresh lime juice
    • Ice cubes

    PREPARATION:

    • Fill the glass with ice
    • Squeeze the lime to get juice
    • Add rum and coke
    • Serve in a highball glass decorated with a slice of lime

     

    1. MOJITO

     One more drink whose native land is the Island of Freedom (Cuba) is Mojito. This cocktail gained popularity because of a perfect combination of a juicy citrus with mint: it is the best thirst quencher both on a hot day and at a party.Classical Mojito always includes 5 main ingredients: rum, soda, sugar, lime and mint. However, lately soda is often substituted with sweet drinks such as Sprite. An alcohol-free version of this cocktail is also quite popular: it includes the same ingredients except for rum.

    • 40 ml of white rum
    • 30 ml of fresh lime juice
    • 6 leaves of peppermint
    • 100 ml of soda
    • 2 spoons of cane sugar (white sugar can also be used instead of brown sugar, or just substitute sugar and soda with Sprite)
    • Crushed ice

    PREPARATION:

    • Put mint, lime and sugar into the glass
    • Carefully mash and mix the ingredients
    • Fill the glass with crushed ice
    • Add rum and soda (Sprite)
    • Serve in a highball glass (tall glass) with a straw, decorating it with a slice of lime and a leaf of mint

     

    1. EL DIABLO

    El Diablo (from Spanish–“devil”) cocktail is a very sly drink! It is based on strong rum, but the taste of rum is softened by lime and grenadine syrup. At the beginning, you won´t even feel how strong this “hellish” mixture is! Make sure you try it!

    • 60 mlofdarkrum
    • 15 ml of dry vermouth
    • 15 ml of Grenadine syrup
    • Ice, lime

    PREPARATION:

    • Fill the shaker with ice cubes (half of the shaker)
    • Add rum, vermouth, Grenadine syrup and mix well
    • Serve in a tumbler glass (usually used for whiskey) decorated with a slice of lime.
